Lighting is the most underrated decorating tool there is. The same room can feel cold and flat or warm and inviting depending entirely on how it's lit. The secret designers use is layering.
Layer 1: Ambient Light
This is your general, overall light. Aim for soft and warm rather than bright and white — think lamps over harsh ceiling fixtures.
Layer 2: Task Light
Light for doing things: reading, cooking, working. A focused lamp where you need it keeps the rest of the room moody and relaxed.
Layer 3: Accent Light
This is the magic layer. A glowing illuminated décor piece or candle adds atmosphere and draws the eye to what you want to highlight.
The Golden Rule: Warm Bulbs
Choose warm-white bulbs (around 2700K) everywhere you relax. Cool light belongs in garages, not living rooms.
